Like most folks coming back from a three or more week trip with a six hours time difference, I took some time to re-orient my body and mind to EST and the US.
Here is my last look at the coastline near the airport.
Travel is not just going somewhere; it is also about changing and adjusting. If one doesn’t and remains stuck in the place where one is, the result is brittle and stressful. My question at the end of each adventure across the water, is, “What did this experience, this time teach me?”
In the past I have had lessons of learning my limits, the joy of engagements, the appreciation for memory, the necessary humility in attempts at speaking and listening, the experience of awe and quiet before scenes of great beauty, architecture, and individuals, the power of recognition…all there for the receiving.
This time, it was the peace of restoration and calm. It is always a pilgrimage, which means that plans will necessarily be turned on their heads; so, it is like riding change like a wave and enjoying the experience as it is rather than descending to frustration. Sometimes that requires a pause and a step back; and at others, it is curiosity calling.
As we enter these last few days before Christmas, I wish you all the peace and joy that you desire. We have a little more than a week to gather the memory of this year, however, it has been, to prepare for what we do not know but might suspect in the coming year. Our anticipations can range from consolation to worry and anxiety. May you have companions on this journey that support you and bring you peace.
Here is a link to the last weekend in Assisi as reported in “The Assisi News”; it is in Italian, so either use the Google translate icon in the URL line or just scroll down to enjoy the pictures. You will need to copy it and paste it into your search bar.
